Kendal Wattsfield Ladies started their Cumbria Ladies League
campaign with a good win away at Carlisle City. From the outset
KW began creating chances but either the final pass or shot and
some good goalkeeping kept the score blank. The opening goal came
midway through the first half courtesy of an excellent left foot
shot by Jo Thompson.
Further chances came and went, but just prior to half time KW doubled their tally when Becca Knowles placed the ball past the keeper.
Within 5 minutes of the restart KW went further ahead, when a powerful run from Jo Thompson found Grania Shankley who slipped the ball under the keeper at the back post. Soon after coming on as a substitute Jenny Carradus added a fourth when Carlisle failed to clear a goalmouth scramble. Nicola Martindale completed KWs scoring with 10 minutes remaining with a delightfully placed shot into the top corner of the net. Carlisle battled on throughout and with 30 seconds left were rewarded by an excellent finish which gave Nikita Morton no chance.
